MEDIA COOPERATION AND SERVICES

Accelerating climate change and other environmental topics are increasingly important issues. We need more and more information on nature, natural sciences and research. This also increases the demand for the expertise of Luomus, among journalists, researchers, research organizations and the general public. The Luomus staff and public attractions regularly feature in the media, both in conjunction with new research results and in the context of various expert interviews and events.

MULTIMEDIA COMMUNICATIONS

The research, experts and public services of Luomus are prominent in the press, radio, TV and the internet in many ways. Luomus also communicates its work through media releases, of which a total of 93 were sent out in 2019–2020 (Table 16).

The Luomus website, Luomus.fi, is the museum’s most important direct channel of communication, especially with the general public. The activity on the website was, as in previous years, highest during the summer months and lowest in November-December. Corona virus restrictions also decreased the number of webpage visitors. In addition to its primary website, Luomus maintains several collection databases and project sites. Furthermore, Luomus is active on social media, i.e., the Facebook pages of the Natural History Museum and the botanic gardens, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube. These platforms attract more and more followers every year.

Journalists and the general public know to contact Luomus when they are looking for answers to any questions about nature. Luomus receives up to several dozen contacts through various channels every day. This interaction is active and cordial, and its reciprocity has a positive effect on both parties.
